Mayville School Playground Sign Reveal and Donor Appreciation Event
Mayville School District would like to recognize Jessica Stortz and Nicole Schaefer, co-chairs of the District Playground Planning Committee and long-time leaders of the Mayville PTA, for their unending efforts and imagination in developing the vision and seeing it through to fruition through more than five years of hard work and dedication. Forever grateful to you both!
On Tuesday, June 28th, the Mayville PTA and school district staff held a sign reveal celebration at the foot of the playground which spans the grounds of the Mayville Elementary and Junior/Senior High campus.
Nicole Schaefer, Playground Committee co-chair and PTA President, shared the following remarks at the event…
“Thank you so much for joining us today as we celebrate some very special people and businesses.
Improving our community is never a completed task. There is always a shift that uncovers a need. Fulfilling that need makes Mayville a place not only to visit, but most importantly a place to stay.
Mayville PTA has always supported the belief that our public school is the starting point and cornerstone of a strong community. And, we couldn’t be prouder of the completed project behind us. An accomplishment that lifts up our school and community, created by the collaboration among Mayville PTA, Mayville School District, and our dedicated community partners.
What started small in May of 2018 with the PTA’s very first Fun Run proceeds far exceeding anything we could have expected, quickly shed light on a large and necessary improvement to our school playgrounds. In Summer of 2022, five years after this vision was formed, an all-inclusive, completely accessible, and one-of-a-kind playground that is now equipped to serve ALL people of our community was completed.
It must be said: the support of our Cardinal families was critical and jaw dropping. During the five years of Fun Runs, more than $65,000 was raised towards this project. This was a testament to the needs and desire our families had for this project, and helped us to obtain numerous grants from amazing community organizations including the Ted and Grace Bachhuber Foundation, Inc., the Packer Foundation, the Beaver Dam Community Hospital Foundation, Mayville Rotary, and the National Exchange Foundation. Many local businesses stood side-by-side with our Cardinal Families, including Mayville Market Piggly Wiggly, Lake Country Corporation, Metalcraft, MEC, GFL Environmental, Homestead Realty and Northwest Cable. These donations were incredible, and it was heart-warming that even individual families, the Weisensels, the Hausers and the Storcks, saw the need and matched the passion of this project. All of these partners were key to the success of this project and we offer them our deepest gratitude and appreciation.
Most projects have stars of the show, and this one is no different. The time, talent and donations provided by Town and Country Construction and Fox Den Landscaping turned paperwork into a playground. To say we are fortunate to have these kind-hearted business leaders right here in Mayville is an understatement.
The Mayville School Board was one of the final pieces of the puzzle. Their support and approval of the final phase wasn’t just a dollar amount, but a commitment to providing the best educational and campus experience for ALL of our students.
Today we reveal the permanent acknowledgement of these business and individuals. This sign, created by Lake Country Corporation and framed by our district’s own Mayville Manufacturing will remind students in the next generation that their community is strong.
Finally, it proves that the vision of one person truly does unite. It’s with great pleasure that we unveil our permanent recognition sign. Congratulations and thank you to all of our sponsors!”
