2024 Mayville Athletic Booster Club Katie Award Presentation
Each year, the Mayville Athletic Booster Club honors an individual with the “Katie Award” for their contributions to our athletics programs. Established in memory of Katie Schwitchtenberg, this award recognizes outstanding support for Mayville Athletics. The 2024 recipient is DJ Legas.
DJ’s involvement with Mayville Athletics began during his high school career, where he earned seven varsity letters in Baseball and Football. He remained involved in Mayville HS baseball as a coach for over 10 years at the Freshman, JV and Varsity levels.
DJ and his wife, Tracy, took great pride in watching their sons, Cody and Cole, excel as multi-sport athletes during their High School years and look forward to watching their grandchildren compete as Mayville athletes in the future. They continue to be passionate fans of all Mayville Athletic teams.
DJ has been a key figure in the development of young Mayville athletes. He has served as president of Mayville Sports, coached youth football for 5 years, and managed Legion baseball for 13 years, including starting the JV Legion program. He continues to serve as the director of the Mayville Legion baseball program.
DJ has also made significant financial and resource contributions through his company, Northwest Cable Construction, including improvements to Theiler Park and Fireman’s Field, installing fiber cable connections to the football press box, and organizing the purchase of the Turf Tank Field striping robot. As a founding board member of the newly formed Mayville Cares organization, he continues to strengthen the entire Mayville community through sports and recreation programs.
The Legas Family’s ongoing support and contributions to the Booster Club, Kickoff Club and other Mayville organizations has provided our athletes with the necessary equipment and facilities to consistently perform at a high level.
