Before saying goodbye for the summer, 7th graders in ELA immersed themselves in the 1960’s world of “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. They read the book as a class, completed a group body biography project on an Outsiders character, and wrapped up the unit by watching the movie. Students dressed in character, tried out the foods mentioned in the book (bologna sandwiches, Pepsi/Coke, popcorn, chocolate cake/brownies, and ice cream), and compared the book to the movie. After finishing up a unit on human body organization and organ systems interactions, 7th graders at the Jr High participated in a frog dissection lab. Frogs have similar body systems to humans which makes them great for comparative anatomy to understand how cells, tissues, organs and body systems collectively work together. Students were asked to identify different organs and explain their role in an organ system to perform a specific life function. #mayvillecardinals #mayvilleschools #cardinalpride
